Defender OCTA: Unmatched Performance and Capability
The Defender OCTA is the latest addition to the Defender lineup, setting new benchmarks in both performance and capability. This blog post dives into what makes the Defender OCTA a standout in the world of luxury off-road vehicles.
Performance
The Defender OCTA is engineered to be the fastest and most powerful Defender ever produced. Under the hood, it boasts a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine sourced from BMW, capable of delivering a staggering 626 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain, combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission, allows the Defender OCTA to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph.

One of the standout features of the Defender OCTA is its advanced 6D Dynamics suspension system. This system includes hydraulically interlinked semi-active dampers, height-adjustable air springs, and pitch control, which collectively ensure that the vehicle remains stable during hard cornering and rough terrain traversal. This setup eliminates the need for conventional anti-roll bars, providing a smoother and more controlled ride.
In addition to its raw power and sophisticated suspension, the Defender OCTA is equipped with Brembo brakes featuring 15.7-inch rotors at the front, ensuring exceptional stopping power. The vehicle also offers a new performance-oriented drive mode tailored for off-road speed, including off-road launch control and specialized ABS calibration for optimal braking on loose surfaces.
Capability
The Defender OCTA is not just about speed and power; it is also designed to conquer the most challenging terrains. The vehicle has undergone a rigorous three-year performance and durability testing program, which included high-performance handling at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife, wet asphalt testing in France, ice driving in Sweden, and arduous rally raid stages in France. It has also been tested in the sand deserts of Dubai and the rock crawls of Moab, Utah, as well as every extreme trail at Land Rover’s Eastnor test facility in the UK.
The Defender OCTA features a raised ride height and a wider stance, enhancing its off-road capability. The vehicle’s ground clearance has been increased by 1.1 inches, and it is available with either 22-inch all-season wheels or 20-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Advanced All-Terrain tires. These modifications provide improved stability and traction on various surfaces.
The exterior of the Defender OCTA is distinguished by quad exhaust tips, extended wheel arches, and redesigned bumpers that improve approach and departure angles. Inside, the vehicle offers performance seats with increased bolsters for added support during spirited driving. An optional Body and Soul Seat audio technology that allows occupants to “feel” their favorite music tracks.
A New Performance SUV Has Arrived
In the world of performance SUVs, things are highly competitive. With the new Defender OCTA, it is clear Land Rover has its sights set on the Mercedes-Benz G-wagen.
Production of this luxury SUV will be highly limited, with just 300 units being produced in the first year. To learn more about the new Defender, contact our New Jersey Land Rover dealership or visit us in Marlboro.
